What’s new
Every release of Rubberduck and what it brought — generated automatically from the store notes, so nothing here goes stale.
4.7.0Current version
4.7.0 turns the logbook into one shared logbook for the whole crew.
Owner and crew share the same logbook — everyone with their own app, Apple and Android side by side. Whoever sails along writes along: log entries, legs, expenses, repairs, photos. Everyone may edit and delete their own.
Boat and crew list are kept by the owner; where something is locked, the reason is right there. Inventory, packing list, safety and watches you do together.
The cash box counts the people you pick.
4.6.9
Answer messages left at the pontoon straight from the app: the reply goes out through Kielwasser, your own address stays yours, and whatever comes back lands in the same conversation. The messages area also holds onboard alarms and area notices for later, kept 90 days. The track follows your boat: a point is recorded on every change of course, not just on the clock - tacks, gybes and harbour entrances appear the way you sailed them.
4.6.8
The barometer now tells you what the trend means: the tendency in plain words, where the pressure sits and the range of the last 24 hours. Plus the model pressure curve for the next 48 hours, aligned to your own reading. Opening the view takes a reading straight away. In the background it measures only while a passage or a watch is running - easier on the battery. Daylight times use your current position when you open them.
4.6.7
The area view loads faster: weather, water levels and marine forecast appear right away instead of waiting for a new position fix. Below deck or in harbour that used to take up to eight seconds before anything loaded at all.
4.6.6
Ship QR code: a weatherproof code on your boat. Whoever scans it can reach you — without seeing your phone number or email. Print template as a PDF, plus a vector version for the print shop.
Messages: what people write from the pontoon sits in its own list behind the envelope, on every tab, with a notification.
Weather: wind and rain as an hourly matrix, with amount and probability.
Fixed: times for tides and messages were two hours off; dark mode display.
4.6.5
Pick your home port instead of typing it: from three letters on, the app suggests places and one tap takes the right one. Free text still works — the suggestions are an offer, not a rule.
Approach warning: if notifications are switched off for the app, the warning cannot appear — the app now says so and takes you to the system settings with one tap. Before, the switch was silently ineffective.
4.6.4
Kielwasser views: you are signed in again inside the app and can add harbour details. Shared links now point to the notice or lock you tapped and open with the normal Kielwasser navigation.
4.6.3
4.6.3 — Time and entries.
- Times now follow your phone's 24-hour setting.
- Every photo and video is its own log entry; nothing gets merged.
- Photos/videos keep their capture time, including archive material.
4.6.2
4.6.2 brings video to the logbook.
- Video everywhere photos worked before: quick entry, logbook, passage detail.
- New: record video straight from the camera.
- New: passage map in the Kielwasser vector chart design.
- Add videos to a passage later; caption and delete photos and videos individually.
- Changes travel to your devices and to your Kielwasser log by themselves.
- Crew with first and last name; log entries stay editable.
4.6.1
4.6.1 rounds out your Kielwasser ship's log.
- Attach a short video (up to 20 MB) to a post, not just photos.
- Delete posts with a confirmation: the post and its photos are also removed from your Kielwasser blog, and uploads keep running in the background.
- Account setup now asks for first and last name, boat type (sail/motor) and a boat photo, so the map, directory and AIS are complete.
Plus smaller improvements and bug fixes.
4.6.0
4.6.0: • Onboard kitty per trip or voyage – editable expenses, automatic crew split, settlement by e-mail • Anchor watch: radius in 5-metre steps, calmer map • Offline charts: whole area across all zoom levels, faster, keeps running in the background • New Nearby tab: harbour search and notices around you • Many detail improvements
4.5.9
Background update to the in-app billing library. No visible changes.
4.5.8
Nicer trip export: the share image now shows the route sharp and properly framed, and the PDF includes a real nautical map with your track instead of just a sketch. Plus small fixes.
4.5.7
Offline downloads (harbour area + charts) now reliably keep running in the background when the app is minimized.
4.5.5
This version improves GPS reliability when sailing with NMEA instruments: when NMEA is the position source, only NMEA is used and evaluated. The track no longer shows false spikes or gaps, and the GPS integrity warning no longer raises false alarms on a fixed-mounted NMEA device. If NMEA drops out, the device GPS still steps in as a fallback - even during an active trip.
4.5.3
End-of-passage suggestion: when your boat stays put for a while, the app suggests ending the active passage – so no passage is left open by mistake. Just a hint, it never ends anything automatically. Can be turned off in the tracking settings.
4.5.2
Starting a new leg now auto-scrolls the list up to the active leg. Plus newest log entry on top, visible detach, and build number on the Info screen.
4.5.1
New: GPS Integrity (Premium) — warns you about GPS jamming and spoofing (a faked position), with a plain-language message, its own alarm tone and a log; works with NMEA and device-only.
Also: Dark Mode, freely selectable wind unit (kn/m/s/bft), currency converter set from your position, radio-check patterns with your real boat data incl. call sign, corrected flags/lights, collapsible legs, spam hint + resend email.
Many detail and stability improvements.
4.5.0
Sails: 0–3 reef stages per sail, selectable on sail change / quick entry (instead of yes/no).
4.4.9
Much smaller download (native libraries are now stripped). Onboard alarm link: the kept-awake note now clears correctly when the watch ends.
4.4.7
New in 4.4.7 (includes 4.4.6):
- Sea-area alert newsletter: subscribe to official notices for your areas right in the app — pick, change or unsubscribe.
- Community water depths from NMEA, shown anonymously on harbour pages.
- Harbour search with aerial view, facilities, weather, wind shelter and AIS.
- Better harbour & lock maps: aerial view, country filter, map stays put.
- Quick Entry with custom log templates; edit & delete log entries with date.
- Faster, more reliable PDF export.
This list is built from the app stores’ release notes. iOS and Android share the version number; small corrective builds are grouped under their version.
